Job Description Summary

Assistant Professor, tenure track. We are seeking applicants who research kinesiology from a neuroscientific perspective. In no particular order of importance, areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: the neural basis of motor learning and performance; neuromotor control; the effects of exercise on the brain and cognitive function; and the neural basis of exercise motivation and adherence.

Establish a successful research program leading to publications in premier refereed journals, presentations in national and international venues, and the submission of proposals for extramural funding; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in an Exercise Science program. Additional responsibilities include recruiting, advising, and training students in the M.S. and Ph.D. degree plans, supervising graduate research, and providing service to the School, College, University, community, and professional organizations.

In Spring 2013, the School of Kinesiology moved into a new “state of the art” building as sole occupant. Current neuroscience equipment housed in the building include two sixty-four channel BrainVision EEG systems and a fNIRs system. AU also has a new MRI Research Center that contains one of the first actively-shielded whole-body 7T MRI scanners in the U.S. for research use and a Siemens Verio open-bore 3T scanner for clinical and research use. AU is located in the southeastern United States, 90 min southwest of Atlanta, in Auburn, AL, a city with a population of about 62,000. Auburn’s size offers numerous advantages to its residents and is a quintessential college town with excellent recreational, educational, and cultural opportunities available.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Neuroscience, or related field with an area of specialization in neuroscience as it relates to kinesiology by start date; evidence of potential in grant scholarship and external funding, strong publication record, and evidence of innovative research; excellent interpersonal communication skills, interest in collaboration, and workplace collegiality; must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time appointment begins, and be able to continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have university teaching experience and actively participate in pertinent professional organizations. Although not required, the ability to teach graduate-level statistics courses will be considered a strength. Postdoctoral experience will also be considered a positive attribute.
